Information for International Applicants
The Ohio State University works to provide global access to its online degree programs. While we carefully track issues related to international authorization and licensure, it is a student’s responsibility to understand requirements related to whether an online degree will be recognized in a country other than the United States, how the collection of student data may be used in another country, and whether withholding taxes (in addition to the price of tuition) will apply.
Some countries may not formally recognize foreign online degrees, which may have implications for students who later seek to enroll in other educational programs, or for those who seek employment with that country’s government or other employers requiring specific credentials.
If you’re considering enrolling in an online program that leads to a professional license, contact the appropriate professional licensing board in your country of residence or the country where you intend to work in order to determine whether an online degree from Ohio State will be recognized.
Professional Licensure Information
If you live outside Ohio and are considering enrolling in an online program that leads to a professional license, we highly recommended that you contact the appropriate state licensing agency in your state or the state where you intend to work to seek the most up-to-date information about state licensure requirements before beginning the program. Ohio State makes every effort to ensure licensure information is current; however, licensure regulations are frequently revised.
For licensing board contact information, licensure requirements and program approval status, please see below.

Utah Division of Consumer Protection
The Ohio State University is authorized to operate in Utah through mutual participation in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). Ohio State's approval for institutional participation in SARA was granted by the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) on September 22, 2015.
In addition, the Utah Division of Consumer Protection issued a Certificate of Postsecondary State Authorization verifying that Ohio State meets requirements of Utah Code Ann. sec. 13-34a-203 to be a registered postsecondary school legally authorized by the state of Utah.
Professional Board Licensure
Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (Nursing)
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing does not require approval of out-of-state online nursing programs that do not include a clinical component. Because the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree completion (RN-BSN), Nursing in School Health Services Certificate, Nurse Coaching Graduate Certificate, and Nurse Educator Certificate programs do not include a clinical component, The Ohio State University may offer those programs to students located in Utah.
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing requires approval of programs that include a clinical component that will take place in Utah. Because the online MS in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice (post-master's DNP or BSN-DNP) programs require students to complete a clinical component in Utah, The Ohio State University must submit program documentation to the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing prior to enrolling students in those programs.
Ohio State submitted program documentation and received Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing approval to offer the online MS in Nursing degree program in the Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializations to students located in Utah.
The online Nursing in School Health Services Certificate program prepares students to administer school health services; however, it does not lead to School Nurse licensure.
The online Nurse Coaching Graduate Certificate program prepares completers who hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing and meet other requirements to seek certification as a Nurse Coach Board Certified (NC-BC) from the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation.
The online Nurse Educator Certificate program prepares students with master's or doctoral preparation to take the national certification exam to become a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
Ohio State is not offering the online School Nurse Professional Pupil Services Licensure Certificate, School Nurse Wellness Coordinator Certificate, or Registered Nurses in Primary Care Certificate programs to students located outside Ohio at this time.
Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (Dentistry)
The Ohio State University’s online Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree program is designed for licensed dental hygienists who have earned an associate degree or certificate from a CODA accredited program. The online Master of Science in Dental Hygiene degree program is designed for licensed dental hygienists who have earned a bachelor’s degree. These programs do not lead to an initial or additional license.
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing requires post-licensure dental hygiene programs to be CODA accredited but does not approve programs. Ohio State's online dental hygiene programs are CODA accredited. Therefore, Ohio State may offer those programs to students located in Utah.
Utah State Board of Education
The Utah State Board of Education does not require approval of online out-of-state educator programs that do not lead to K-12 teacher licensure, but requires those programs to be regionally accredited. Because the programs do not lead to K-12 teacher licensure in Utah and are regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, The Ohio State University may offer the online Master of Learning Technologies, Master of Arts in Art Education, Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE), and Core Practices in World Language Education programs to students located in Utah.
The online ECDE program leads to Associate Licensure in Pre-Kindergarten Education and prepares completers to teach in childcare, pre-schools, and pre-k programs within a school district in Ohio. Utah does not offer an equivalent associate pre-k license and does not require licensure for pre-k instructors. However, the online ECDE program could qualify completers for other early childhood roles in Utah if all other criteria are met.
Utah Local Education Agencies have discretion over whether to accept completion of the Master of Arts in Art Education and Master of Learning Technologies programs for an educator salary change.
Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (Social Work)
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing requires out-of-state online Master of Social Work programs to be accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) but does not approve programs. The Ohio State University's online Master of Social Work degree programs are CSWE accredited. Therefore, Ohio State may offer those programs to students located in Utah.
Ohio State's online Master of Social Work degree program meets Utah education requirements to apply for licensure as a Certified Social Worker, Certified Social Worker Intern, or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. However, additional Division requirements must be met prior to applying for a Master's prepared Social Work License in Utah.
Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (Radiologic Sciences)
The Ohio State University’s online AS to BS in Radiologic Sciences degree completion program is designed for individuals who hold an Associate of Science degree and are certified by the ARRT, NMTCB, or ARDMS. The program prepares completers for the AHRA Certified Radiology Administrator credential exam but does not lead to an initial or additional license in Utah.
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing does not require approval to offer the online AS to BS in Radiologic Sciences degree completion program to students located in Utah.
Medical Laboratory Science
The Ohio State University’s online Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) to Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) degree completion program is designed for individuals who hold an Associate of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and ASCP certification as a Medical Lab Technician. Completion of the online MLT to MLS program meets educational requirements to sit for ASCP MLS certification via Route 2; however, students must also complete a clinical laboratory experience requirement for ASCP MLS certification.
Utah does not require state licensure or certification to work as a medical laboratory scientist in Utah.
