Information for International Applicants

The Ohio State University works to provide global access to its online degree programs. While we carefully track issues related to international authorization and licensure, it is a student’s responsibility to understand requirements related to whether an online degree will be recognized in a country other than the United States, how the collection of student data may be used in another country, and whether withholding taxes (in addition to the price of tuition) will apply.

Some countries may not formally recognize foreign online degrees, which may have implications for students who later seek to enroll in other educational programs, or for those who seek employment with that country’s government or other employers requiring specific credentials.

If you’re considering enrolling in an online program that leads to a professional license, contact the appropriate professional licensing board in your country of residence or the country where you intend to work in order to determine whether an online degree from Ohio State will be recognized.

Professional Licensure Information

If you live outside Ohio and are considering enrolling in an online program that leads to a professional license, we highly recommended that you contact the appropriate state licensing agency in your state or the state where you intend to work to seek the most up-to-date information about state licensure requirements before beginning the program. Ohio State makes every effort to ensure licensure information is current; however, licensure regulations are frequently revised.

Professional Board Licensure

  • Louisiana State Board of Nursing

The Louisiana Board of Nursing does not require approval of nursing education programs that do not lead to RN or APRN licensure and do not include a clinical component. Because the programs do not lead to RN or APRN license and do not include a clinical component, The Ohio State University may offer the online Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree completion (RN-BSN), Nursing in School Health Services Certificate, Nurse Coaching Graduate Certificate, and Nurse Educator Certificate programs to students located in Louisiana.

  • Louisiana Department of Education

The Louisiana Department of Education does not require approval of online out-of-state educator programs that do not lead to PK-12 teacher certification in Louisiana. However, institutions offering programs that require completion of a clinical experience in a school in Louisiana must be nationally accredited by TEAC/NCATE/CAEP. Because the programs do not lead to PK-12 teacher certification in Louisiana and The Ohio State University is NCATE accredited, Ohio State may offer the online Master of Learning Technologies, Master of Arts in Art Education, Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE), and Core Practices in World Language Education programs to students located in Louisiana.

The online ECDE program leads to Associate Licensure in Pre-Kindergarten Education and prepares completers to teach in childcare, pre-schools, and pre-k programs within a school district in Ohio. Louisiana does not offer an equivalent associate pre-k certificate. A bachelor’s degree is required for pre-k teacher certification in Louisiana. However, the online ECDE program could qualify completers for an Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate, if all other criteria are met.

  • Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners

Ohio State's online Master of Social Work degree program meets Louisiana education requirements to apply for licensure as a Registered Social Worker, Licensed Master Social Worker, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker. However, additional Board requirements must be met prior to applying for a Master's prepared Social Work License in Louisiana,

The Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners does not require approval to offer the online AS to BS in Radiologic Sciences degree completion program to students located in Louisiana.

  • Assistive Technology

The Ohio State University's online Assistive & Rehabilitative Technology Certificate (ARTC) program is designed to meet assistive technology training and education requirements for national certification as an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) or Seating and Mobility Specialist (SMS).
