Ohio State’s online bachelor’s degree in Integrated Arts and Sciences offers two start dates each year, in spring and autumn. Admission is offered on a rolling basis, allowing you to apply when you’re ready and begin class in the next available term.
Admission Criteria
The Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Arts and Sciences program is designed for individuals with prior college experience and is not intended or appropriate for recent high school graduates. To be considered for admission to this program, applicants must meet the following requirements.
- Have earned a minimum of 30 post-high-school, college semester hours,
- Have earned a maximum of 90 college semester hours, and
- A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher in coursework completed at all institutions attended.
Application Details
The online BA IAS program requires the following materials to be considered for admission into the program. You may review the status of your application and any outstanding requirements at appstatus.osu.edu.
To complete your application, you should request that all colleges or universities you’ve attended send your official transcript to Ohio State. Include a transcript of any college courses taken in high school. Note: You do not need to provide a transcript for coursework completed at The Ohio State University.
How to send your transcripts to Ohio State:
- Request that your transcript be sent electronically, if available, to avoid processing delays.
- If ordering a transcript online, select The Ohio State University as a recipient. In the absence of a list of universities to select from, have your school email your encrypted transcript directly to ugdocs@osu.edu.
- If your school does not offer electronic delivery, please have your transcript(s) mailed to:

Transcripts should not be delivered by the student or sent to other addresses on campus. Doing so will prevent acceptance of the transcript as official.
A personal statement is required for those who have not continuously been enrolled in any school. Include a short essay about why you wish to enroll in the program.
Your statement of purpose should be a maximum of 1-page.

Curriculum
The online Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Arts and Sciences gives you the flexibility to build a degree plan around your previous college credit, academic interests, and future goals. Instead of following a fixed course sequence, you will work with a dedicated academic advisor to build a personalized curriculum. Your advisor will help you understand how your credits apply, choose courses that meet program requirements, and stay on track toward graduation.
This program requires a minimum of 121 total credit hours. The major itself includes 30 credit hours, with at least 15 major credit hours completed through Ohio State. As part of the major, you will complete seven domain courses spanning at least three of these Arts and Sciences domains:
- Visual and Performing Arts
- Humanities
- Social and Behavioral Sciences
- Natural and Mathematical Sciences
- World Languages
One domain will provide additional depth, allowing you to focus part of your degree around an area that supports your goals.
Required Courses
Students are required to complete coursework in three areas of embedded literacies–Advanced Writing, Technology, and Data Analysis.
This introductory course is designed to be taken in your first semester of the BA in Integrated Arts and Sciences program. You’ll explore current research and creative inquiry through contemporary interdisciplinary challenges.
This required capstone course is designed to be taken in your final semester before graduation. You’ll connect what you’ve learned throughout the program to your personal and professional goals, identify the strengths you’ve developed, and show how your experience can support your next steps after earning your degree.
