Admission Criteria
To be considered for admission to the Master of Learning Technologies program, applicants must have:
- At least a four-year bachelor’s degree
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for the last bachelor’s or advanced degree earned*
* During the admissions process, a recommendation to enroll in the Graduate Bridge Program (to qualify for admission to the MLT degree) may be considered for applicants who have a GPA below 3.0 from the last undergraduate or advanced degree earned.
Application Materials
Applicants for admission to the program must complete an Ohio State Graduate Admissions online application.
Include an updated copy of your resume or CV listing work & education experience. The resume can be uploaded in the online application system.
Copies of transcripts from all educational institutions you have attended must be submitted for degree verification and undergraduate GPA calculation. Unofficial copies can be uploaded in the online application system to form a complete application packet, but official copies of all transcripts (raised seal or notarized) must still be submitted to the Ohio State Graduate Admission’s Office. Note: You do not have to submit transcripts for coursework or degrees received from The Ohio State University.
Please arrange to have three recommendations prepared. These can come from academic or professional connections who are familiar with your qualifications and potential for graduate study. Please contact your Enrollment Advisor with any questions about potential recommenders. You will have the option of allowing your recommendations to be submitted electronically or in paper form. Instructions are provided for either method within the online application.
A short essay (1-2 pages), addressing what professional objectives the applicant aspires to achieve from their graduate study in the MLT program, and how the applicant will benefit from the knowledge and skills gained in the program.
A non-refundable application fee of $60 is required. Ohio State alumni may be eligible for an admissions fee waiver.
A GRE score is optional and not required.

The Ohio State University participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA).
SARA is a national initiative that increases student access to distance education courses and programs while maintaining compliance with state regulations. Institutions participating in SARA can offer educational opportunities in all 49 SARA member states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico without seeking individual approval in each state.
California is not a SARA member state, however, OSU may offer online courses and programs to students located in California under the California Private Post-Secondary Act of 2009.

Curriculum
The curriculum for the Master of Learning Technologies program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address contemporary challenges in educational technology and improve learning experiences across various formats. The program consists of 21 credit hours of core requirements, a research course, one elective course, and a Practicum Capstone for a minimum of 30 credit hours. All courses are asynchronous, allowing students to complete coursework at their own pace without scheduled meeting times, providing maximum flexibility.
This course introduces students to the histories of the technologies, theories, organizations, and standards related to Learning Technologies. Students are exposed to a variety of collaboration technologies in the course and work together to author an eBook for the final project. (Core requirement)
In this course students develop an understanding of the systematic approach to instructional design as it relates to different practices in educational technology including curriculum and product development. Students are exposed to the entire instructional process from front-end analysis to development. (Core requirement)
The Applied Instructional Design course is the second in a two-course sequence. This course provides in-depth coverage of the topics from the introductory instructional design course using a project-based approach. In this course, students build on what they learned and practice applying concepts, principles, and theory to address real educational problems as part of design teams. They propose solutions through the use of learning technologies. The goal is to help people learn better in a variety of learning contexts and make a positive impact on groups and communities.
