Overview

The Master of Learning Technologies is a professional degree focused on applying current research to solving problems of practice facing the use of technology to support learning in a number of in-person, online, and blended contexts. Students will take a core sequence of seven courses, a research course, one elective course, and a practicum course.

Admission Criteria

To be considered for admission to the Master of Learning Technologies program,  applicants must have:

  • At least a four-year bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for the last bachelor’s or advanced degree earned*

* During the admissions process, a recommendation to enroll in the Graduate Bridge Program (to qualify for admission to the MLT degree) may be considered for applicants who have a GPA below 3.0 from the last undergraduate or advanced degree earned.

The Ohio State University participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA).

SARA is a national initiative that increases student access to distance education courses and programs while maintaining compliance with state regulations. Institutions participating in SARA can offer educational opportunities in all 49 SARA member states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico without seeking individual approval in each state.

California is not a SARA member state, however, OSU may offer online courses and programs to students located in California under the California Private Post-Secondary Act of 2009.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the Master of Learning Technologies program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address contemporary challenges in educational technology and improve learning experiences across various formats. The program consists of 21 credit hours of core requirements, a research course, one elective course, and a Practicum Capstone for a minimum of 30 credit hours. All courses are asynchronous, allowing students to complete coursework at their own pace without scheduled meeting times, providing maximum flexibility.

As part of the Master of Learning Technologies program, students complete a practicum experience where they apply their skills in real-world settings, develop innovative learning solutions, and document their work in an electronic portfolio, serving as a comprehensive exam.
