Curriculum
Our curriculum emphasizes practical skills and real-world applications, ensuring you’re ready to excel in criminal justice administration roles. By gaining a deeper understanding of the criminal justice system, you will be well-prepared to take on leadership positions and make a positive impact on your community. Twelve credits will be in core courses, and three credits will be elective.
Students will become familiar with the structure of the criminal justice system and the application of public management and organizations theory to the criminal justice system. Many of the applications will focus on Ohio, but the theories and concepts are broadly applicable to the American system of criminal justice.
Focuses on planning and financial decision-making in public and nonprofit organizations. It provides a higher-level understanding of government and nonprofit budgeting processes.
This course will provide the knowledge and tools necessary to analyze data. Students learn about fundamentals of statistics to conduct analysis, and they will develop an understanding of program evaluation and research design in order to evaluate the quality of analyses conducted by others and communicate findings. Work on applied project related to their jobs that culminate in Capstone projects.
This course examines the history and principles of effective evidence-based programs in criminal justice setting. Students will develop an evidence-based solution to a real world problem, in a criminal justice agency of their choosing.
Students can take SOCIOL 5950 or SOCIOL 5925, whichever is not taken can be used as elective credit.
Introduces students to research on contemporary issues faced by state and federal correctional systems. The course draws from multidisciplinary scholarship that examines offender decision making, factors that promote recidivism, and how to successfully reintegrate inmates back into society.
Students can take SOCIOL 5950 or SOCIOL 5925, whichever is not taken can be used as elective credit.

Designed to expose you to, and provide you with the opportunity to apply, management practices and analytical frameworks grounded in behavioral and social science research and tested by organizational leaders. These practices and frameworks will help you to develop as a supervisor and leader so that you can effectively manage and lead high-performing, successful public service organizations.
This course examines how we define crime and justice in the United States criminal justice system, and how we design policy to respond to crime and justice. It will proceed in four parts: First, we will discuss problems and ideals of our criminal justice system – the damage it can do, our ideas of what it should do, and what informs those ideas. Second, we will define criminal justice policy and discuss how we evaluate policy effectiveness. Third, we will evaluate policies in different area of the system, such as crime prevention, corrections, courts, and policing. Finally, we will discuss the biggest issues facing the system with an eye toward reform.

Tasha Perdue’s research examines the link between drug use, criminal justice inequities, and public health, with a focus on the opioid crisis. As a macro-level social worker, she advocates for social change through research and policy reform.
