Amy Mackos, PhD

Assistant Clinical Professor, Faculty Lab Director

Dr. Mackos has a background in psychoneuroimmunology, microbiology, and genomics. Her previous research focused on characterizing host (immune/inflammation) and microbial responses to psychosocial stressor exposure in a model of infectious colitis.  Additionally, she worked to determine if natural therapies, such as probiotic intervention, can prevent stressor-enhanced increases in colitis. Her main research interests involve assessing the bidirectional communication between the host and resident microbes and the impact this has on health and disease. Currently she is working with Loren Wold to determine the involvement of gut and oral microbes in the development and progression of air particulate matter-induced Alzheimer disease.
