The online Master of Science in Nursing is a graduate degree at the master’s level of The Ohio State University's College of Nursing. This top-ranked online MSN program prepares students with a bachelor’s degree in nursing for a variety of nurse practitioner positions in clinical settings ranging from private practices, clinics, hospitals and businesses to managed care organizations and governmental agencies. Graduates will acquire knowledge, values, and skills through coursework, clinical experience, and evidence-based practice. There are three specialization tracks in the online MSN program and each track will prepare you to sit for specialty certification.

Class Format: Most courses are offered synchronously, requiring students to participate in the course at scheduled times during the week, with some courses offered asynchronously.

Admission Requirements: Students must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an ACEN/CCNE/CNEA-accredited institution to be eligible to apply. Applicants must also have an active RN license and a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale in the last degree earned relevant to the program of study.
Time to Completion: Five semesters (2 years) of full-time study or eight semesters (3 years) of part-time study.
Program Tracks
Family Nurse Practitioner
The FNP specialization, ranked No. 2 in the country by U.S. News and World Report, includes preventative healthcare as well as the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness. Graduates of this track are prepared to care for individuals and families across the lifespan.
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Neonatal Nurse Practitioners provide healthcare to neonates, infants, and children up to 2 years of age. In this track, you’ll attain the specialized knowledge and skills to provide safe and high-quality care to neonates.
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners focus on individuals, families and populations across the lifespan at risk for developing and/or having a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders or mental health problems. The PHMNP provides primary mental healthcare to patients seeking mental health services in a variety of settings.
